Barbara Ziebarth
Barbara is originally from Northern California but has spent most of her time living and working In Southern California. She received her BA from the School or Art and Design at San Diego State University where she graduated with honors and distinction in her field. Her educational emphasis was in environmental design and sculpture, she did not take up painting until after graduation. She currently works and resides in
La Mesa California.
She has been involved in the arts since an early age and has worked in a variety of materials including ceramics, clay and metal sculpture and acrylic and oil painting.
She is currently working in acrylic and oil paint and has recently been experimenting with wax encaustic a medium she says is both challenging and at times exasperating.
The artist is also an accomplished interior designer and has practiced for several years in the field as principal of her own firm, MPLA Associates, creating an impressive portfolio. She made the decision in 2014 to phase out her design projects allowing her to spend more time in the studio creating art.
The artist says she usually works out a piece in her mind before she approaches the canvas “although sometimes I let myself get absolutely lost and see where the path leads, this is particularly true when working with hot wax”.
She has spent time in the studios of some notable artists and has traveled extensively which has contributed to the inspiration that fills her sketch books and canvases. Barbara has participated in both group shows and solo exhibitions, most recently a juried exhibit at the
L Street Gallery in downtown San Diego. Her work is in private collections throughout the country.
